What Size Wedding Arbor Do You Need?

Choose the white arbor for a clean, compact ceremony focal point. Choose the wooden arbor when you want a wider frame, a natural wood finish, or more horizontal space for your ceremony design. Both are strong choices, but they shape the front of the ceremony differently.

Start with where everyone will stand

Before choosing an arbor, decide where the couple, officiant, attendants, and anyone participating in a reading or tradition will stand.

An arbor does not always need to surround every person. It may stand directly behind the couple, frame their position from the guests’ viewpoint, or mark the center of a wider ceremony arrangement.

Ask these questions before comparing measurements:

• Will the couple stand beneath the arbor or several feet in front of it?
• Will the officiant stand between them, behind them, or slightly to one side?
• Will parents, children, or attendants join them during the ceremony?
• Are there cultural or religious elements that require another table or person?
• Does the photographer want open space on either side?
• Will the arbor remain visible after flowers and fabric are added?

The arbor should frame the ceremony without crowding the people conducting it.

When the wooden wedding arbor fits

Our wooden wedding arbor measures 60 inches wide, 21 inches deep, and 79 inches high. It is constructed from stained Canadian hemlock with a natural finish.

The additional width creates a broader visual frame for the couple and gives a florist more room to distribute greenery, flowers, or fabric across the structure. Its wood tone works beautifully with barn weddings, woodland ceremonies, gardens, backyards, and venues where the surrounding landscape is part of the design.

The wooden arbor can also provide a stronger contrast against a pale sky, open field, or white tent. That makes it useful when you want the ceremony feature to remain distinct in wide photographs.

Internet size rules do not tell the whole story

You may see recommendations that a wedding arch should be seven or eight feet wide. Those measurements often refer to custom floral installations designed to surround the couple, officiant, and large ceremony party.

A rental arbor can serve a different purpose. A 39-inch or 60-inch structure can sit behind the couple and create a clear center point without enclosing every person at the front.

Measure the people plan before you measure the flowers.

If three people must stand within the arbor’s visible frame, mark the width on the ground and test the positions. If the couple will stand in front of it, evaluate how the arbor looks from the first and last guest rows instead.

Include the arbor in the ceremony floor plan

Place the arbor before using it as the centerline for the aisle and chair rows. A small shift at the front can make the entire seating arrangement look off-center.

After the location is marked:

1. Confirm where the couple and officiant will stand.
2. Establish the center of the aisle.
3. Lay out the first chair row.
4. Check the view from both sides and the back.
5. Preserve clear guest and wedding-party routes.
6. Leave enough working room for the florist and photographer.

Send the dimensions to your florist

Do not ask a florist to design for “a standard arbor.” Send the exact width, height, depth, material, and photographs of the selected rental.

The florist needs to know:

• Which arbor you reserved
• How much of the structure should remain visible
• Whether the design will be symmetrical or concentrated on one side
• What flowers, greenery, fabric, or signs are planned
• When the arbor will be available for decorating
• Which attachment methods are approved
• Who will remove the décor after the ceremony

Do not drill, staple, screw, or apply an adhesive to a rental arbor without approval. Floral arrangements can add weight and catch wind, so the complete design must match the structure, installation, site, and weather conditions. Confirm the décor plan with us before materials are attached.

Check the ceremony surface and weather plan

The arbor needs a level location with enough depth for its full base. The white arbor is 23 inches deep, and the wooden arbor is 21 inches deep.

Check the ground for slopes, soft areas, holes, roots, irrigation, and other obstacles. Indoors, confirm that the placement does not obstruct doors, aisles, or required exits.

For an outdoor ceremony, arbor use and decoration must be evaluated for the actual site and forecast. Fabric and large floral pieces can change how the structure responds to wind. No decorative arbor should be treated as weather shelter or left in an unsafe location simply because the ceremony is scheduled to begin.

Your rain plan should also identify where the arbor will go if the ceremony moves under a tent or indoors. Make sure the backup location has enough height, width, and access for the selected structure.

Decide whether it will move after the ceremony

An arbor can sometimes become a reception entrance or photo backdrop after the vows, but that transition needs a plan.

Confirm in advance whether the decorated arbor may be moved, who is responsible, and how much time is available. Moving it after the florist has added flowers or fabric may require special handling. The route must also be wide and level enough for the complete structure.

Leaving it in the ceremony area keeps the original setting available for family photographs. Reusing it can extend the design into another part of the event when the timeline and labor support the move. Both plans work well when decided before setup.
